Phase 5: Placing the children back with their family and/or independent living
Helping the streetchildren demands a structural approach in which the families also have an important role. Streetchildren mostly come from dysfunctional families. Los Cachorros aims at placing the children back with their families after a while, in those cases where this is possible. To make this possible, the families are involved in the process from day 1 onward. Through home visits and interview, the social worker maps out the situation at home. Throughout the process the parents are involved with the wellbeing of their child through different activities, meetings, house visits and conversation. Aside from this, the psychologists provides for family therapy and is always approachable for questions or concerns the parents might have. In case the children can not go back to living with their family, another shelter or independent living will be looked into to ensure the children grow to be balanced, strong and independent adolescents.
